The Captain Whidbey has undergone an amazing transformation and re-opened in April.
The Captain Whidbey was recently featured in Sunset Magazine, Vogue and Conde Nast Traveler.

We are building a guest experience like no other resort in the PNW and the San Juan Islands area.

Located on the shores of Penn Cove on Whidbey Island, in the heart of Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve, Captain Whidbey has provided legendary island hospitality and dining since 1907. With 30 rooms, a new restaurant and bar concept, 6 beautiful acres and a dock for seaplanes, boats, and kayaks on Penn Cove, Captain Whidbey will become the coolest place to work on Whidbey.

Purpose of Position

You are the director of the guest experience in the bar. Our Bartenders play a key role in the guest's experience at the Captain Whidbey. With a focus on creating the most memorable drinking & dining experience of any resort in the PNW, the role of the Bartender is to take care of our guests in a friendly and sincere manner while creating a unique “only at Captain Whidbey” experience.

Position Mission/Overview

The position consists primarily of preparing and serving beverages.
For the best guest experience, we will ensure that you are knowledgeable of the complete Captain Whidbey experience. This includes familiarity with our unique experiences, menu, their ingredients and preparation, food and wine service etiquette, and the hours of operation and reservation policies.

You may be expected to complete 2 weeks of training during which you will be introduced to all the policies and daily procedures that make up your job. Your training will include memorization of the floor charts, seating numbers, ​and floor layout. A successful Server will quickly gain a good working knowledge of the wine list, menu ingredients, POS and how to create a unique “only at Captain Whidbey” experience.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

The bartender will be preparing drink orders, filling wine orders. The bartender’s FIRST priority is to provide the wait staff with beverages for their guests, if you are not the server, as well as for guests sitting at the bar.

Here is a general list of responsibilities to give you an understanding of what you will be doing during a shift, but your responsibilities as a member of the team are not limited to this list.

 Bartenders are responsible for a prompt greeting within 1 minute
 Put coasters down, if used
 Take F&B menus
 Card everyone under 30
 Drinks should be delivered within 5 minutes
 Prepare your drinks consistently and with high quality
 Suggest an appetizer to every guest after receiving the drink order and provide the appropriate silver and dishware.
 Up-sell at every opportunity.
 Put the guest’s bill in a glass as they order drinks unless the guest requests to start a tab
 Anticipate and exceed all guest expectations.
 Clear empty glasses, dishes and bottles. Keep floors free of debris.
 Continue to service the table until they depart.
 THANK EVERY GUEST and assist them in departure.


Position Expectations

 Take beverage orders from guests and servers.
 Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with the Restaurant’s standard drink recipes.
 Learns the names and personally recognize our regulars.
 Record drink orders accurately and immediately after receipt into the register system.
 Accept guest payment, process credit card charges and make change (if applicable).
 Wash and sterilize glassware.
 Prepare garnishes for drinks and replenish snacks, appetizers for bar patrons.
 Maintains bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation and promotion of beverages.
 Clear and reset tables in bar area.
 Present drink menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding beverages.
 Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the bar including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves and storage areas.
 Receive and serve food orders to guests seated at the bar.
 Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to the restaurant manager.
 Assist the restocking and replenishment of bar inventory and supplies.
 Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.

Experience

The education, specialized training, required licenses or certifications and/or years of directly related experience required to enter this job:
• Must be able to communicate and understand the restaurant’s common language (English).
• Two to Three years of employment as a Server or Bartender is preferred
• WA state Liquor and Food Handlers Card is REQUIRED
